6 mountain bike gifts on our wish list

Leave practical and reasonable behind for this list of mtb items you really, really want

You still have hours before the big holiday, you haven’t crossed everything off your list, and you don’t want to look like it was a last minute thing? Time to go big or go home. Or maybe you’re looking forward to the new year and want something big to match your plans for 2018. Either way, here’s a list that will set you up to be the best you possible, on a mountain bike, at least. Following our more practical holiday list, this list of 6 ways to make next year better is all about going all out and dreaming big.

Yeti – SB6 Team Replica

Yeti’s only making 150 of these Team Replica SB6’s. This is the same bike that Yeti puts together for two-time EWS world champion, Richie Rude. Just like they do for Rude, Yeti have bumped the Fox fork up to 170 mm, and draped the SB6 in Shimano XTR, Chris King, and the finest Fox parts available. Add team colours, and this is one beautiful and confidence inspiring ride. If it’s good enough for Rude, what’s stopping you? Move fast, this is a very limited run, then ride as fast as you want, wherever you want.

Chromag – Surface Ti

Based out of Whistler, Chromag already make a range of lust-worthy steel hardtails with geometry made for riding the steep, aggressive local trails. Stepping into the titanium game ups the drool factor on this frame significantly. For their first foray into Ti, Chromag takes its 29” / 27.5”-plus Surface model and step it up a couple notches. Known for attention to detail and small touches, you can be sure the Ti version of the Surface will live up to the elevated expectation of the Chromag name and titanium’s reputation.

KS – Lev CI

KS makes their Lev Cl carbon post in a wide range of travel options, from 65 mm to 175 mm so there’s a travel option to suit your needs, from XC racing to long legged riders wanting extra length before their next Enduro. Unidirectional carbon replaces the usual aluminum mast, and combines with lightweight cable and shifter options for a claimed weight savings of over 50g. Not huge, no, but when you’re looking to maximize every part, it adds up.

We Are One – Agent wheelset (27.5” or 29”)

We Are One’s carbon Agent wheelset comes in 27.5” or 29” so you can get a set for your Chromag and one for your Yeti. If you’re going to spring for either of those rides, this is one of the few possible upgrades left to maximize your build. Proudly hand laid in Canada, these carbon wheels from Kamloops, B.C. are the perfect complement to your ride. The Agent pairs especially well with the Surface Ti from Whistler-based Chromag for the full-Canadian effect, but We Are One’s will look killer on the Yeti, too.

Silca – Custom engraved Centennial Anniversary HX-One Home Essential Kit and Silca T-ratchet + Ti-Torque kit

If you’re going to put this much effort into your bike, you’d better have the tools to match. There will be no rounding out of the Ti hardware on your Yeti with a multi-tool. If you do any work on a bike like that, even adjusting the seat post, do it with quality tools to match. Silca’s custom engraved American Walnut anniversary edition box will ensure they stay yours, too. You do have to carry something with you on the trails, though, so you should probably pick up Silca’s T-ratchet + Ti-Torque kit. Because if a bolt is over-torqued in the woods and no one is around to loosen it .. the carbon definitely still makes a sound (it’s crying)

Retallack Lodge – Gravity Assist vacation

Now that you have your perfect ride, you need somewhere to ride it with perfect trails to match. Nestled deep in the West Kootenay region of B.C., with an exclusive network of trails spreading into the Selkirk and Purcell Mountains, it is hard to picture a better place to ride than Retallack Lodge. With guided backcountry rides and even a heli-biking option, you’ll be able to get in all the riding you could want. And topping out at a seemingly endless 6,000 vertical foot run, you’re sure to get as much as you can handle.
