If you’re looking for an escape this winter, it doesn’t have to be somewhere warm. Combine your getaway with adventure at Nipika Mountain resort for its inaugural fat bike race, the Cross River Ripper. On Saturday, Feb. 24, head to the heart of the Canadian Rocky Mountains for this fat bike race on Nipika’s dedicated fat bike trails groomed specifically for fat bike riders.

The Cross River Ripper will offer a variety of distances to challenge the most experienced fat biker, or welcome newcomers to the sport. “We are still planning the exact course, but it will most likely showcase our northern trails with plenty of rollers and mountain and river views,” says Steve Wilson, Chief of Course. “It will be designed for youth and adults, with both beginner and expert riders in mind.” Racers can choose between a 5 km, 10 km, and 20 km challenge depending on their level of skill and fitness.

With dedicated fat bike trails and a postcard-worthy location, this first year event looks like it will hit the ground running. Nipika Mountain resort is located between between Banff, Alta, and Radium Hot Springs, B.C. The adventure destination resort is only 30 km from Radium Hot Springs, where natural hot springs are open year round for riders looking for a post-race recovery soak. Nikpika is an eco-resort, generating all it’s electricity via clean, natural and sustainable means. The resort features 25 km of groomed fat bike trails, plus 50 km of trails groomed for classic and skate skiing, plus separate snowshoe trails. In the warmer months, these trails convert to mountain bike trails, ranging from beginner to expert, and hiking or trail running trails.

A BBQ and awards ceremony will follow the race at the Nipika Day Lodge. BBQ is included with race registration, and additional tickets can be purchased on site for guests. Registration is only $20 for adults and $15 for youth. A full course map is set to be released closer to the race date.
