North Shore Billet releases made-in-Canada Talon cranks

Machined in Whistler and made for hard riding

Formed in 2003, NSB has a full 20 years of machining beautiful mountain bike components under its collective belts. All of that experience is evident in the new North Shore Billet Talon cranks. It is NSB’s first crank and, made almost entirely in the brand’s Whistler shop, one of the only cranks made entirely in Canada.

Why make a crank when there are so many options out there already? Simple, says NSB’s A.J. Barlas.

“We wanted to offer a Canadian-made product for riders, born and testing in the wilds of Whistler and taken abroad.”

The new Talon cranks weren’t always destined for the market. The two-year development started as a personal project. Staff wanted to create something designed specifically for their park and dirt jump bikes. Whistler’s a hard place to keep parts secret, though, and the Talon cranks quickly caught the eye of friends, NSB team athletes and riders in Whistler and beyond.

The final version of the Talon cranks released today were further refined with the help of NSB’s team riders, Yoann Barelli, Max Langille, Ben Wallace, and Milton McConville. The cranks were then sent to EFBE Pruftechnik in Germany for lab testing to prove their strength, exceeding the EFBE TRI-TEST Gravity standard.

Talon cranks are machined out of 7075 T6 aluminum right in Whistler at North Shore Billet. NSB’s new cranks will come in four sizes, from 155mm-170mm, suiting their dirt jump and freeride purpose. The cranks are available in three anodized colours (black, clear ano silver and pewter).

North Shore Billet even created a threaded bottom bracket and installation tool to match the Talon cranks. The same tool is used to install the direct mount chainring for the Talon crank. With enough standards already flooding the mtb world, NSB is making sure its tool is also compatible with some bottom brackets from SRAM Dub and Race Face (it follows the same specifications as a Park Tool BBT-79).
