Top 10 Canadian mountain bike videos of the year

Staying close to home for 2017’s best videos

Standing out isn’t easy when there’s a steady stream of new web videos arriving online daily. Holding viewers attention over the course of a year is even harder. These 10 standout videos from 2017, featuring Canadian riders or Canadian locations, are videos that are worth going back to watch again months after their release. Maybe a couple times.

Sid Slotegraff – Unfinished Business

Nothing motivates like a deadline: Sid Slotegraff had a limited window to build and and film trails for this video before moving East to Ontario. Slotegraff took full advantage to that time to check off his wishlist as possible, making this Unfinished Business worth watching and re-watching.

KC Deane – Raw on the Fraiser River

The riding in Northern B.C. is steep and wild, and KC Deane tackles it all at top speed.

IFHT & Micayla Gatto – Ferda Girls

Parody video makers, IFHT team up with pro rider and artist, Micayla Gatto for this winning entry to the Whistler Crankworx Dirt Diaries contest. Bonus: Intersection – Gatto’s mix of art and riding is on display in this creative video filmed at B.C.’s Retallack Lodge

Bernard Kerr – Just another Whistler Edit

I mean, it’s obviously not. Everyone and their dog put out a end-of-season Whistler edit, and Bernard Kerr’s still stands out. Kerr’s riding here is all the more impressive as it marks his return from a serious shoulder injury earlier in the year from a practice run gone wrong.

Fox MTB – Ride Your F#%ing Bike! (ehhhh, NSFW … obviously)

Fox MTB takes 50to01’s Josh Bryceland and Josh Lewis on a tour up the West Coast from California to Canada with Kirt Voires, ending in Nanaimo, B.C., at Steve Smith’s home trails. 50to01 appeared in some great videos this year, including Wheel Love and Another Slice of British Pie, but this one gets the CanCon nod.

Forrest Riesco – Solidute

Less shredding and more focusing on riding to experience that relaxing moment of quiet in the woods. It’s nice to see a video focus on the common experience all riders have on the trail. It’s also impressive how relaxed Riesco looks on some of Pemberton’s steeper trails.

Jordie Lunn – Rough AF 2

Jordie Lunn builds and hits some of the burliest freeride lines we’ve seen in the woods in a while. Oof.

Brandon Semenuk – Raw 100 V3

Brandon Semenuk’s skill and smooth style are on full display in his third installment for Red Bull’s Raw 100 series.

Casey Brown and Cam McCaul – Corbetts Couloir

Casey Brown has put out several great videos this year, often focusing on her Revelstoke home. This one gets a bit creative, sending big ski lines on bikes at Jackson Hole, Wyo.

Brendan Howey – 10

Brendan Howey marks 10 years of riding for Commencal Bikes with this Sunshine Coast video. Stylish DH tricks and a loamline that dreams are made of.
