Overall battles het up in Austria

Canadian juniors will leave Leogang with two podiums, from Jackson Goldstone and Gracey Hemstreet, but no wins. It’s a sign of how well the season is going that, three races into 2022, this is the first World Cup without a Canadian winner.

Junior Men: Goldstone silver

Jackson Goldstone’s (Santa Cruz Syndicate) battle with Jordan Williams (Madison Saracen) heated up in Austria. Williams takes the win this weekend, by 4.004 seconds over the Canadian. With that, and his win in Fort William, the Brit moves into the World Cup overall lead. Goldstone now trails Williams by five points.

Tristan Lemire (Commencal Muc-Off) adds a seventh for the Canadian squad. Tegan Cruz (RockShox Trek) adds an 11th to his impressive debut season. Coen Skrypnek finished 14th, putting four Canadians in the top 15.

Hemstreet’s streak ends with bronze

In the junior women’s race, Gracey Hemstreet (Norco Factory Team) walks away from Leogang with a bronze. The Austrian mud, and Canyon Cllctv’s Phoebe Gale, ends the Canadian’s winning streak at two. Jenna Hastings (Pivot Factory Racing) just edged out Hemstreet to take second.

Hemstreet holds on to her lead overall, but now by a slim 5-point advantage over Gale. 165 for the Canadian. 160 for the Brit.
