Canadians were front and center at the first two rounds of US Cup XCO racing in California

Relive the Vail Lake US Cup in this breathless and relentless video from USA Cycling.

The pace was high in California, seeing average speeds in the high 20 km/h range. USA Cycling’s commentator keeps the pace equally furious in the highlight video. Two full 90 minute races fly by in a little over two minutes.

If you can’t wait for more XC racing action after last week’s Bear Mountain Canada Cup, and can’t watch this weekend’s Pan American championships in Aguascalientes, Mexico, here’s the next best thing.

Canadian’s are front and center for all the action in California, swarming the US Cup podium at Vail Lake. This shows in the entertaining US Cycling Power Rankings that fill out the rest of the six minute video. Four Canadian’s make it onto the Top-5 ranking, including one in the #1 spot. Not a bad start to the season!

While US Cycling’s highlight’s only cover the elite races, there were plenty of fast Canadian’s in the junior races as well. Cumberland’s Carter Woods shows why a good start is always important. While the speedy junior stretches out the field on the front, a touch of wheels in the massive junior men’s field sees all but the top 15 riders stopped in or behind a high speed crash:

And, since we’re still catching our breath from the Vail Lake highlight reel, here’s the longer US Cup season opener recap from Bonelli Park in San Dimas, California. It’s still Bill Scheiken on the mic, like the first video, but with a much more relaxing pace to the 16 minute recap. Junior racing makes the cut for the Bonelli highlights, so you get to see Woods in a familiar pose: hands in the air, alone on the front of the race. After two wins in two weeks in California, the Cumberland junior kept streak going to win the Bear Mountain Canada Cup in Victoria, B.C.
