Kabush 4th, Nieuwold 7th at Whiskey 50 Off-Road

Canadian Olympian Geoff Kabush finished fourth in today’s Whisky Off-Road Pro Men’s Backcountry event. The classic 50 mile course in Prescott, Ariz. draws a strong field of cross country racers every year for a weekend of short track and long distance racing. After finishing Third in Friday night’s Pro Fat Tire Crit, Kabush finished one spot behind Swiss racer Nicola Rohrbach, who has been on an early season streak in California, at the US Cup series and Sea Otter Classic. The Men’s Whiskey Off-Road Backcountry race was won by Keegan Swenson of Stan’s No-Tubes, with Specialized’s Howard Grotts barely a bike length behind. Swenson was able to reverse the results from Friday’s Fat Tire Crit, where the duo escaped from the chasing pack to finish one-two, but with Grotts taking the win in the shorter event.

Kona’s Marathon world champion Cory Wallace finished 13th, after bikepacking with the Kona Adventure Team from Phoenix, Ariz. to Prescott of the race. Evan Guthrie was the next best Canadian finisher in 24th.

Annika Langvad continued her impressive streak of wins in 2018 to claim the Women’s Pro Whiskey Off-Road Backcountry title, finishing ahead of Stan’s No Tubes Chloe Woodruff, with Erin Huck behind in third. Pendrel Racing’s Elyse Nieuwold, of Newmarket, Ont. raced to 7th, in a tight finish with Pivot Cylce’s – Stan’s No Tubes Sofia Gomez-Villafane, who finished 6th. Just one second separated the two after 3 hours 42 minutes of racing in Arizona. Whistler’s Chloe Cross finished in 22nd.

Nieuwold finished 13th in Friday’s Fat Tire Crit, where Chloe Cross was 17th.
