The first ever Women’s Slopestyle Tour will take place this summer, including a stop in Canada.

For its inaugural season, the Women’s Slopestyle Tour will have three North American stops. Truckee, Cali. will kick the tour off at the Little Big Festival. The series then travels north to Seattle, Wash. and the Sugar Showdown. Finally, the tour crosses the border for the Big White Invitational in Kelowna, B.C.

Partnering with the Freeride Mountain Bike Association (FMBA), the Women’s Slopestyle Tour will, for the first time, enable female riders to earn points and rank on the World Tour system. All three tour stops will be included on the FMB World Tour Calendar as bronze level events.

“Our group is intently focused on developing a platform for female riders to experience a competitive schedule and earn FMB rankings through a dedicated series,” says Stephanie Nychka, one of the four women organizing the series.  “Not only will this help to foster growth in both rider confidence and advance the skills of riders, but it will create a ranking for those who may be seeking sponsorship or much needed exposure.”

The Women’s Slopestyle Tour is following in the tire tracks of freestyle BMX, where recent expansions of women’s competitions have helped fuel rapid growth.

“In looking to the world of freestyle BMX, the addition of a World Cup and Vans Pro Cup series (with increased visibility, accolades and reward) has led to women’s progression in the sport happening ‘in real-time’ and producing a class of elite riders,” says Nychka. “We are dedicated to building the foundation for female mountain bike competition, supporting riders, and cultivating an elite class of athletes who are deserving of industry recognition”

Nychka, who recently won the first ever Canadian Freestyle BMX national championship in Toronto, Ont., is joined by Courtney Knudson, organizer for the Little Big Fest stop, Kat Sweet at the Sugar Showdown and Louise Hatton when the tour arrives at Big White.

While the first year’s events are all in North America, the tour plans on expanding beyond the continent in the coming years.
