Campagnolo launches new Shamal Wheels: Aero, more versatile

Italian brand updates wheelset, the the Shamal - Dual Profile, to be faster but with better handling

Campagnolo has introduced an updated version of its Shamal wheelset, designed to be faster and handle better. The Shamal – Dual Profile, features a new rim profile that reduces drag while offering a more stable ride in crosswinds, improving control and comfort for the rider. According to Campagnolo, these wheels are built for long-distance comfort and are capable of handling various terrains and weather conditions.

A wheelset with a long history

The wheels combine features from previous models with an updated approach, including a new profile design that enhances performance. The Shamal line has a long history of innovation, first introduced in 1992 with an aerodynamic high-profile design that was groundbreaking for its time. These wheels gained recognition in the cycling world, with top riders like Evgenij Berzin, Miguel Indurain, and Marco Pantani using them in major races like the Giro d’Italia and the Tour de France.

Today, the Shamal – Dual Profile wheels balance performance and value, making them an attractive option for riders looking for a high-quality product at a reasonable price. As with all Campagnolo wheels, they are designed and assembled by hand in Europe, with each step of production closely monitored for precision and quality.

New design

A key feature of the Shamal – Dual Profile wheels is the new design, developed using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and refined through wind tunnel and road testing. The updated profile, combined with hubs featuring different flange sizes, allows for shorter spokes, improving overall rigidity while still maintaining comfort during rides. The unidirectional fiber construction with a C-LUX finish ensures that mechanical loads are evenly distributed, which helps maintain a consistent ride across different conditions. These wheels can also accommodate wider tires, making them a good choice for gravel riding.

Updated features

The Shamal – Dual Profile wheels are designed to fit larger tires, starting at 28mm, thanks to their hooked-rim technology and internal channel design. They offer the flexibility of both clincher and tubeless setups, with the MoMag system making it easier to position the nipples using magnets. This system eliminates the need for holes in the rim and avoids the need for sealing tape. Additionally, the G3 spoke lacing pattern uses a 2:1 ratio with three parallel spokes in each group to ensure optimal spoke tension and power transfer, particularly on the rear wheel, where the cassette creates additional load.

Reliable and lightweight

The aluminum hubs are built using the traditional cup and cone system, making it easier to maintain the bearings. Thanks to new materials, the Shamal – Dual Profile wheels are lighter than previous models, shedding over 100 grams, bringing the total weight to 1.48 kg.
