Giant performance apparel: 2015 Rev Pro jersey and bib shorts
At a recent Giant event, I got to test some of the company’s performance apparel, which included the 2015 Rev Pro jersey and bib shorts. The “pro” in the products’ names is not there for show. Giant worked with professional riders to get the right fit and features. The result of that collaboration can be seen in the three back pockets of the jersey. They have high openings, are deep and keep your gear snug. There’s little to no sag. The one drawback, however, to these pockets is that I found them a little challenging to get into on the fly.
Both the jersey and the bibs are made of TransTextura, a fabric that wicks away moisture. It worked quite well during my long ride in the hot sun. Giant rates the jersey for a wide temperature range: 12 C to 27 C. My initial testing featured temperatures in the mid-20s, in which the jersey seemed well matched. I suspect, though, for skinny riders, the jersey will need some supplementing at 15 C and colder. The full-length zipper makes it easy to get the right amount of ventilation when you need it.
The bib shorts’ chamois comes from the Basque cycling clothing designer Etxeondo. The Urraki chamois is made from high-density foam of varying thickness. It provides more padding near the sit bones and less around the edges. It also has a breathable, antibacterial top layer of fabric. The laser-cut straps are soft and comfortable. These bib shorts definitely helped to keep me comfortable on their 80-km debut.
