Gift ideas for the ride

Cyclists need a variety of gear for riding so check out these eight great ideas to wrap up

The Briko Aries Sport ($120) has 29 vents to move air across a cyclist’s head, keeping it cool. The helmet by the Italian company will offer good protection for rides on the road or on light trails.

The Liv Flara mid-thermal longsleeve jersey ($130) is made of ThermTextura fabric for warmth and moisture-management. The high collar keeps the cold breezes out. Three pockets at the back carry ride essentials.

Garneau worked with some of its Clif Pro Team athletes to create unique Clif Team jerseys ($100). Catharine Pendrel’s jersey features rainbows and unicorns, while Maghalie Rochette’s has hammers, saws, drills and other tools. Each top has a story behind it. The full outfit includes matching bib shorts ($150) and bra ($45).

The Campagnolo coffee mug ($60) can hold a fairly large cappuccino, which should be enjoyed before 12 p.m.

Sportful Fiandre Norain Pro bib tight ($255) is for riders who don’t let a bit of cold, or a lot of cold, keep them off the roads. The garment doubles up the fabric at the front for added warmth. It does an excellent job of keeping heat in and water out.

The No. 22/SAS S-1 vest (US$220) is a collaboration between the Toronto-based maker of titanium bikes and New York City’s Search and State. The gilet is made from Schoeller’s C-Change fabric, which is waterproof and breathable. The fabric’s membrane is said to open up as the temperature increases to let more moisture pass through. It contracts as the temperature drops.

Specialized utility pants ($100, specialized.com ) look good off the bike, but have a cut that makes them comfortable for a casual pedal. VaporRize fabric has a good amount of stretch and toughness and wicks away moisture well.

Continental Top Contact Winter II tires

The compound in the Continental Top Contact Winter II tires ($86) is soft enough to provide good traction in ice and snow. The tread pattern, with many channels and sipes, also adds grip on winter roads.
