Opinion: Are handlebars really necessary anymore?
There should be no limits to great ideas
Cycling tech has come a long way. From the famous story of Tullio Campagnolo inventing the quick release, to the invention of clipless pedals. Consider Shimano STI radically changing the way we shift gears. Greg LeMond winning the 1989 Tour de France with aero bars. Electronic shifting making every click that much more reliable. Disc brakes changing the way we come to a halt.
Sometimes new tech is scoffed at. Sometimes traditionalists are too set in their ways to see genius at work.
And as this man proves, who is to say we even need handlebars? He rides his bike just as well as with them. Think of the weight savings!
