With gravel riding exploding, and higher-volume tires making the gravel bikes ever more capable, the all-road market has a big presence at Sea Otter this year.
Along with gravel road, there are new helmets from POC, new power-meter options and more.
Easton Overland gravel team’s Allied Cycle Works Alfa
The Allied Alfa is a gravel bike, but doubles handily as a road-race bike if you need to hit the pavement
The Alfa uses an integrated pinch-style collar on the full carbon-fibre frame
Allied Cycles is made in America, instead of overseas
Details on the bike extend to the derailleur hangar, which has the Allied bird silhouette shaped into it
Easton's new wheels are as at home on the road as off.
Shimano Ultegra RX drivetrain works on tarmac, but will also keep your chain in check when you hit the dirt—or the sand dunes surrounding Sea Otter's California home
Easton has launched a gravel team to take on the back roads of North America this season. The squad rides the made-in-America carbon-fibre frames from Allied Cycles. Team manager Matt Hornland found time to escape his booth, throw slicks on and jump in the Sea Otter road race.
POC Helmets
The more casual Omne helmet comes with POC's Spin liner, weighs in at 295 g and has a price tag of $175
It also comes in this bold, matte yellow
The new Ventral Air Spin is just 230 g, and is more ventilated than the Ventral Spin
The existing Ventral Spin gets new colours, including the eye-catching yellow, which you can get matching sunglasses for
The Ventral aero helmet still has the 23-degree tail for aerodynamics and "purpose driven ventilation" to keep the aero helmet cool, while still allowing air to pass through the helmet efficiently.
POC had two new helmets and some bold new colours on display in its booth.
Stages and ENVE
For the power-focused, Stages was showing its updated head units. The L50 has an ever-bright, full-colour display.
Stages was also showing new DUB compatible crank axles and its Factory Install program. Send your cranks to Stages, and they'll install a power meter, including new Cane Creek EE Wings titanium cranks and the SRAM Red AXS cranks
If you don't want the full L50, the smaller options still have maps, button control and the other goodness
ENVE had its new 3.4 AR wheel on display
The rims are still handmade in the U.S.
The disc-specific road rim takes wider-volume tires into consideration as part of its aerodynamic profile
