10 Canadians headed to Junior Worlds

UCI Junior World road and time trial championships start Friday in Offida, Italy. At the start will be Canada's four reigning national champions.

The 2010 UCI Road World Junior Championships start Friday in Offida, Italy and the fields will include 10 Canadians representing seven provinces. Four women and six men will wear the Canadian jersey at the event, which starts with the time trials Friday (11 a.m. women, 2 p.m. men) and wraps up with the road race Sunday (10 a.m. women, 2 p.m. men).

Amongst the riders will be Canadian Junior Time Trial champions Julia Garnet (Saskatoon, SK) and Stuart Wight (Riverview, NB) and the Canadian Junior Road race champions Véronique Drapeau-Zgoralski (Montreal, QC) and Ryan MacDonald (Greenhill, NS). Also racing for Canada will be Annie Ewart (Brentwood Bay, BC), Laura Bietola (Greenwood, ON) , Kris Dahl (Calgary, AB), Craig Logan (North Saanich, BC), Jean-Samuel Deshaies (Amos, QC) and Frédéric Poisson (Trois-Rivières, QC).
The women’s time trial course is 14.7 km, starting in Acquaviva and finishing in Offida. The men’s time trial course will be a loop of 27.7 km with both the start and the finish in Offida.
The road race will be on a loop course of 15.8 km. The women will complete five laps (79 km) and the men eight (126.4 km).

Luc Arseneau (Dieppe, NB) will be leading the crew as the head coach, assisted by Nathaniel Faulkner (Bracebridge, ON).
