19-year-old Italian Continental cyclist killed by motorist in collision
Sara Piffer was hit by a driver when riding with her brother

Awful news. 19-year-old Sara Piffer, a rising cycling star from Trentino, Italy, was killed after being struck by a driver while training on the Rotaliana plain, between Mezzocorona and Mezzolombardo.
Her brother, Christian, who was riding with her, was also injured, though his injuries were minor.
Initial reports suggest that the driver, travelling in the opposite direction, overtook another vehicle and collided with Piffer.

The force of the impact threw her to the ground, leaving her unconscious on the road. Emergency responders arrived quickly, and given the severity of her injuries, an air ambulance was called in. While medical personnel worked to save her, using a defibrillator and other life-saving measures, Piffer could not be saved, according to Rai News.
Piffer rode for the Continental Team Mendelspeck since 2024. She had a strong performance at the Italian national elite championships, finishing fourth in the team time trial. In 2023, she finished 18th at the UCI junior road worlds. She also finished eighth at the Italian national road championships, and sixth at the Italian national time trial championships.
