BC Bike Race hits the trail

"Ultimate eingletrack experience" starts June 30

Riders in the seventh edition of the BC Bike Race will hit the trails in Cumberland, B.C., on June 30. Made up of singletrack trails, the race has a unique character that sets the event apart from other mountain bike stage races.

The seven-day stage-race will snake its way though Powell River, Sechelt and Squamish before finishing in Whistler on July 6.

Organisers have refined the course throughout the last six years, and trails have been improved for the current edition. Competitors will be able to race against the clock in special “enduro” sections. Chip-timed downhill stretches of up to 2.5 km will help ensure that technical riding remains a key component in taking on the event.

The 2012 defending champions Neal Kindree and Wendy Simms are on hand for the latest edition of the race. Other top competitors include Canadian Matt Hadley, enduro specialists Corey Wallace, Guido Thaler and Carter Hovey.

Likely to be especially dominant in the enduro sections are Wade Simmons and Andreas Hestler, both of Rocky Mountain Bikes. Hestler is the 2012 BC Bike Race enduro champion, while Simmons is known as the Godfather of Freeride, and won the inaugural Red Bull Rampage.
