Brazilian Olympic road cyclist Kléber Ramos tests positive for EPO

Brazillian cyclist Kléber Ramos da Silva who represented his country in the men’s Olympic road race on home soil August 6 has been suspended by the UCI for testing positive for continuous erythropoietin receptor activator (CERA). The positive sample was taken on July 31 just days before the Olympic road race according to the UCI list of provisionally suspended athletes with the analysis of the B sample still pending.

Ramos was a DNF in the 237.5-km road race and earlier this year finishing second in two races on home soil. Ramos was second in the Brazillian national championship road race on July 26 and second overall in the four stage Volta Ciclistica Internacional do Rio Grande do Sul which took place earlier in August.

Of the 144 riders who started the Olympic men’s road race which was won by Greg Van Avermaet (Belgium), only 65 finished the race. Ramos was one of two riders representing Brazil in the race. The 30-year-old races for the professional continental Funvic Brasilinvest-São José dos Campos.
