On Saturday, British junior 25-mile time trial champion Aidan Worden died after being hit by a driver. Worden was on a training ride when the collision occurred.

His 360 team posted the news, saying, “It is with the deepest sadness that today we lost one of our young riders. At around 10:30 a.m., while on a training ride with his mates, Aidan had an accident which resulted in him losing his life. Aidan has been part of 360 for over three years. During that time, he has developed as a person, man, and rider to a level few of us ever achieve. He never judged anyone and always supported others, especially when it came to fixing our bikes.”

The 18-year-old cyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Lancashire native began racing BMX before heading to the road. In 2024, he won the 25-mile UK TT championships. He also won the 62nd edition of the Eddie Soens Memorial race in 2024, a notable season opener in the U.K.

His team went on to say, “Watching him grow, train, and mentor others, we are absolutely heartbroken. Our thoughts are very much with his beloved family that he leaves behind. Rest in peace, Aidan, you will be very much missed and always in our hearts,” a post read. “Aidan wasn’t just a friend, but he was an inspiration to the younger riders. He supported and helped everyone in his way. Aidan wasn’t just a cyclist or the best bike mechanic in the country but a friend and a teammate.”

British Cycling also posted a tribute on X: “Everyone at British Cycling is devastated to learn of the tragic loss of Aidan Worden. A promising young talent and incredibly valued friend and teammate, there is no doubt this loss will be felt deeply by the whole cycling community. Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones at this incredibly difficult time.”

Lancashire police are asking for the public’s help. “Our thoughts are with this young man’s family, friends, and loved ones at this difficult time. They are being supported by specially trained officers,” Detective Sergeant Matt Davidson said. “An investigation is underway, and I am appealing for help from the public. If you witnessed this incident, have any dashcam/CCTV/doorbell footage, or any information that could assist us in our investigation, then please get in touch.”

The collision comes just days after six members of the German track team were hit and hospitalized while training in Mallorca. Thankfully, none of the injuries were life-threatening.

The same can’t be said for Sara Piffer. The 19-year-old Continental cyclist was killed on Jan. 24 while training in Italy. She, too, was hit by a motorist.
