Canada announces roster for 2017 Grand Prix Cycliste Gatineau

Join us for live coverage of the Grand Prix Cycliste Gatineau on Saturday, May 20 at 2 pm EDT.

Cycling Canada have announced the national team’s roster for the 2017 edition of the UCI Grand Prix Cycliste Gatineau. The six women team is made up of four Rio Olympians and the second ranked rider in the overall classification of the 2016 UCI women’s WorldTour.

The Chrono Gatineau (May 19) and GP Gatineau (May 20) are the highest ranked UCI-sanctioned women’s events in Eastern Canada. For the UCI races eight edition, teams and competitors from across Canada, the US and athletes representing dozens of countries will compete.

Representing Canada will be Leah Kirchmann (Team Sunweb) and Karol-Ann Canuel (Boels-Dolmans). Kirchmann finished third at the 2016 edition of the GP Gatineau. They will be joined by Rio Olympic bronze medalists in the team pursuit Allison Beveridge and Kirsti Lay who are teammates on Rally Cycling in 2017. Additional, Sara Poidevin and Katherine Maine also of Rally will complete the squad that is a balance between experience and youth.

The Chrono Gatineau goes off at 6:30 pm EDT for a 21 closed out-and-back course in Gatineau park. The opening portion is a long rolling climb followed by a fast descent back towards the start/finish area on Lac-Des-Fées Parkway. Riders will go off at one-minute intervals.

Saturday sees the women’s peloton tackle 104 km that includes two hilly circuits through Gatineau Park before closing laps on an urban circuit.
