Last fall, the UCI announced that, for the first time ever, there will be a Women’s WorldTour featuring 17 events, gilded by some of the top riders and top teams on the planet.
The global cycling body has announced the who’s-who of that list.
The Women’s WorldTour series will be a mix of single-day and stage races, replacing the World Cup for competitors. Based on a ranking of the first 40 teams listed as registered for the 2016 sason, “the best teams will automatically be invited to participate in the major events on the calendar,” the UCI announced in a statement.
It’s a ranking that also takes into account UCI points earned from team time trials at the Richmond, Virginia world championships in September.
Further, the statement specifies that organizers of the Women’s WorldTour will send invitations to the top 20 UCI women’s teams for the one-day races of the calendar, while the top 10 teams listed will be invited for the stage races. With riders like Alizee Brien on Team Tibco-Silicon Valley Bank and Karol-Ann Canuel on Boels-Dolmans—two squads that are a part of that top-10 ranking—the Women’s WorldTour roster means big things for Canadian athletes.
The remaining rankings can be viewed on the UCI’s website, while the top 10 teams are as follows:
1 Wiggle High5 (3390.5)
2 Rabo Liv Women Cycling Team (3120.5)
3 Boels Dolmans Cycling Team (2929.92)
4 Canyon Sram Racing (2433)
5 Cervelo Bigla Pro Cycling Team (1482.17)
6 Orica – AIS (1330.34)
7 Hitec Products (1275.17)
8 Cylance Pro Cycling (854)
9 Team Tibco – Silicon Valley Bank (762.67)
10 Team Liv-Plantur (730)
