Canadian road championships head to Lévis in 2020 with new and familiar stops for other disciplines

Cycling Canada has announced the championship dates and locations for the 2020 season

Canadians vying for national championship titles in road, mountain bike, track and BMX disciplines can mark their calendars and begin laying out their 2020 travel plans. Cycling Canada announced on Wednesday the venues that will host the year’s national champ crowing events. The chance to rep Canada by wearing the maple leaf annually attracts junior, under-23, elite, masters and para athletes to the competitions.

Karol-Ann Canuel will be able to defend her title in Lévis in 2020.

Dates and venues for Canadian track and road champs

The road cycling championships for juniors, elite and para cyclists move north from Saint-Georges-de-Beauce where they were hosted in 2019 to Lévis, Que. in 2020. Cycling Canada has tried more urban championships in recent years with the 2016 and 2017 races held in Ottawa on a circuit not far from the downtown intended to encourage more spectators to line the route. The 2020 competitions run from June 26 to 29 in an Olympic year potentially playing a role in team selection for the 2020 Tokyo Games.

The 2019 elite championships took place on Canada Day long weekend. The elite time trials were won by Rob Britton (Rally-UHC) and Leah Kirchmann (Team Sunweb) while Karol-Ann Canuel (Boels-Dolmans) and Adam de Vos (Rally-UHC) won the elite road race titles.

Adam De Vos, nicknamed the Sneaky Fox, is the 2019 Canadian elite men’s road champion.

The masters championships stay east with races scheduled for Victoriaville which is located halfway between Quebec City and Montreal from July 2 to 5.

The national championship season opens in the spring with the para and junior track championships at the Mattamy National Cycling Center in Milton, Ont from April 3 t 5. The boards of Milton rea the go-to venue for track competitions in Canada and will host the elite and masters competition in the Fall of 2020 with the schedule set to be announced later this year.

Cyclocross nationals for 2019 will take place once again in Peterborough, Ont. but a venue and dates for 2020 have yet to be confirmed.

“We are thrilled to confirm the dates and locations for each of our 2020 Canadian Championship events,” said Cycling Canada’s events manager Josh Peacock. “The Canadian Championship remains the pinnacle of high-performance competition on our national events calendar, and we’re confident that each of these organizations will set the stage for athletes young and old to showcase their best.”

Cycling Canada also announced the dates and venues for the XCO and BMX championships in an Olympic year, the marathon mountain bike championships, DH champs and the second Enduro Canadian championships.
