On the same day that saw Silber Pro Cycling take a podium sweep at the UCLA Road Race in California, another event in the southwestern United States saw Canadian athletes—both men and women—chalk up similarly commanding performances.

That race was the Valley of the Sun Stage Race in Arizona, whose second stage ended with one of Canada’s—and Silber’s—top elite riders ranking in the top 10, and ruling the roost in general classification.

At the end of the 151.28 kilometre stage, winding through the arid landscape of Arizona, Eric Marcotte of Team Jamis rolled to the finish to take top honours, clocking a winning time of 3:28:29. Mexico and the United States were represented in the other two podium spots, meanwhile, as Gera Medina of EP Cyclists rolled to second place. American rider George Simpson, competing in the colours of Gateway Harley-Davidson Trek U2, took third.

Ryan Roth of Silber Pro Cycling edged into the top 10 at the end of the stage, crossing the finish in seventh place. In general classification, however, Roth sits in first place, boasting a time of 4:06:36.

The woman’s race, however, saw Canada take the day’s top results. As the 99.78 km race reached its finish, Canada’s Alison Jackson, riding for Twenty16 presented by RideBiker, was the victor with a winning time of 2:44:28. It puts her on the podium alongside two American riders, both from Dallas DNA Pro Cycling: Mandy Heintz in second, and Mia Manganello in third. Jamie Gilgen, also with Visit Dallas—and a former competitor with Rise Racing who’s ascending the pro ranks this year—ranked 30th, 28 seconds behind Jackson.

In GC, Jackson ranks fifth with 1:12, while Gilgen is 16th with 2:58. American cyclist and Jackson’s teammate Allie Dragoo is the top-ranked female rider in general classification with 3:15:22, while Evelyn Stevens of Boels Dolmans and Leah Thmoas of Twenty16 are second and third.
