U.K. online bike retailer Chain Reaction Cycles will no longer be selling Shimano products in Canada and the U.S. as of Jan. 1, 2019. Wiggle.com, which merged with Chain Reaction in 2016, is also expected to stop selling Shimano components and products as of Jan. 1 according to Bicycle Retailer and Industry News.

The announcement was made on the Chain Reactions website. “Unfortunately from January 1, we will no longer be able to sell Shimano into your country. We’re working with Shimano to be able to sell to you again in the future,” a message on Chain Reaction’s home page reads.

According to BRAIN, Shimano has received widespread criticism over the years from independent bicycle retailers who said the Japanese component company was not doing enough to stop online retailers from selling their products below the wholesale costs of dealers.

Chain Reaction is based in Belfast, Northern Ireland and launched the chainreactioncycles.com website in 1999. Wiggle is based in Portsmouth, England and grew it’s online retail business beginning in 1999 as well. The two companies merged in July 2016 when Wiggle bought 100 per cent of the Chain Reactions Cycle.
