Canadian Christian Meier has made Girona his home since retiring from professional cycling in 2016. He’s built three business in Girona. La Fabrica Girona, Espresso Mafia and The Service Course which have kept him busy but Meier continues to ride quite a bit. Despite a couple of seasons of retirement under his belt, Meier plans to race Thursday’s Canadian individual time trial championships in Saguenay, Que. on board a Legor Cicli handmade custom steel bike.

First hit out on the beast today and managed to do a decent time at the Catalan TT champs. First time riding at threshold on the rig and she was signing. A few details to still sort out before taking the start of the National Championships in Canada next week, mainly disc wheel and proper TT suit. Other than that can only hope for legs on the day. Been a different approach to previous years with only a time for a few specific training days and work life balance taking priority, like a good night at the Sonar Music Festival last night because at the end of the day 'I ain't pro bro'! . .I do have to admit at one point during todays effort was I think 'what have I gotten myself into' but then just got back to given'er… . . . . . . . .#custombuild #cyclinglife #cycling #gironabikerental #bikeracing #theservicecourse #gironacyclingholiday #gironamysportcity #letsride #friends #outdoorsisfree #cyclingholiday #luxuryholiday #cyclinggirona #travel #bikeshop #bikeporn #bikepacking #igersgirona #bikeporn #bikepacking #igersgirona

Before the Canadian championships, Meier took the new steed out for a test ride at the Catalan TT championships.

“First hit out on the beast today and managed to do a decent time at the Catalan TT champs. First time riding at threshold on the rig and she was signing,” he wrote in an Instagram post along with some shots of the new bike.

“A few details to still sort out before taking the start of the National Championships in Canada next week, mainly disc wheel and proper TT suit. Other than that can only hope for legs on the day,” he wrote.

Since retiring, Meier has competed in some long distance gravel events and is often seen out on his road bike around Girona. Training full time is no longer his job though and his businesses keep him quite busy.

“Been a different approach to previous years with only a time for a few specific training days and work life balance taking priority,” Meier explained. “Like a good night at the Sonar Music Festival last night because at the end of the day ‘I ain’t pro bro’!”

Though he still has the drive to compete, Meier perhaps isn’t as confident in his form as he was when he was pro. “I do have to admit at one point during today’s effort was I think ‘what have I gotten myself into’ but then just got back to given’er…”

The Canadian championships begin on Thursday with the individual time trials with the elite roads races on Saturday, June 23.
