2010 Cypress Mountain Hill Climb this Saturday to raise money for pancreatic cancer research
When Myriam Glotman lost her mother Betty Ergas to pancreatic cancer, she and husband Geoffrey Glotman decided they wanted to do something to help fight the disease. It’s estimated more than 500 people a year are diagnosed with pancreatic cancer each year in B. C. and, because it’s a type of cancer that does not give much warning in its early stages, it has the lowest survival rate of all cancer types.
The Glotmans launched the Cypress Climb in 2008, a hill climb up the West Vancouver mountain with funds going toward pancreatic cancer research. The second edition of the climb in 2009 raised $42,000 for the B.C. Cancer Foundation’s Betty Ergas Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund. This year the Glotman Simpson Cycling Club, which puts on the event, is looking to raise even more with 100 per cent of all dollars raised going directly to the fund.
Registration for this year’s ride, which takes place Saturday, Aug. 28, can be found online at www.glotmansimpsoncycling.ca. Registration is a $25 minimum donation online or $40 on event day. Sign in at Cypress Mountain starts at 7:30 a.m. with the event getting under way at 9 a.m.
