Canada’s top riders in the men’s peloton are called to the line at the 2016 national road championships in Ottawa.

Recently announced by Cycling Canada, the 2018 national championship calendar has been released, accounting for events in road, mountain bike, track, paracycling and BMX disciplines.

The events represent the highest levels of competition on the domestic calendar for national athletes.

“Cycling Canada,” said Mathieu Boucher, performance development director for the national cycling body, “is excited to release the dates and locations of the 2018 Canadian championships. The first of those events will be the Canadian track championships, when junior, para and under-17 riders will compete at the Mattamy National Cycling Centre in Milton, Ont., from April 12 to April 15.

In June of next year, the focus then switches to the asphalt, when the Canadian masters road championships in Victoria, compete from June 1 through June 3. Later that month, the elite, para and junior roadies compete in the Global Relay Canadian championships in Kamloops, B.C., from June 21 to 24.

In July, it’s over to the dirt. The BMX Canadian championships will happen in Drummondville, Que., on July 14. The Canadian cross country championships hit the trails around Canmore, Alta., from July 21—22, followed a week later the downhill Canadian mountain bike championships from July 28–29, once again on the terrain of Panorama Mountain Resort in British Columbia. Canada’s national championship mountain bike calendar will then conclude on Aug. 26 in Saint-Raymond, Que., with the Canadian mountain bike marathon championships.

Yet to be confirmed are the dates and locations for the elite and masters national track championships and the Canadian cyclocross championships, slated to be held in fall of 2018.

As ever, organizers are looking ahead to a sizzling season of competition, and note the role played by Cycling Canada’s various partners in making it a reality.

“We have the privilege to partner with an amazing group of organizers, public and corporate partners who are fully dedicated to hosting the best possible events to showcase our sport to the public and to support the development of our athletes across the country,” Boucher said.
