Cycling in Canada: The downhill experience of coastal British Columbia, Whistler-style, as seen from the saddle

In some parts of the country, cyclists are battening down the hatches, readying their indoor trainers, and preparing in general for the onslaught of winter. On some streets, the asphalt is noticeably a good deal lighter in terms of the overall numbers of cyclists, the winds of winter already biting.

In other parts of the country, though, it’s business as usual for cyclists — which, on the downhill slopes of Whistler, B.C., is saying a lot of very, very exciting things.

This video was shot in October and uploaded to YouTube by StepBrothers Produtions, showing rider Dwayne Johnson’s skilled, technical downhill ride along the picturesque — and very challenging — trails of coastal British Columbia. Evergreens flash past as he plummets down the Whistler trails, the coastal mountains looming and awe-inspiring in the background. For anyone who has ever put rubber to dirt in B.C., a place where alpine and ocean co-exist, it’s a familar, but no less heart-stopping sight.

Enjoy your weekend rides wherever you are, Canadian cyclists.
