Cycling in Canada: Touring the Cabot Trail

When it comes to multi-day rides that take a cyclist through some of Canada’s most pristine, stunning scenery, it’s hard to beat the Tour de Cabot.

It’s not an inexpensive ride in which to participate, but it’s worth it. To join the ranks of cyclists, it’s an entry fee of $160, or with a high-quality, commemorative jersey, $230. As you can see from this video, though, any expense needed to join is worth the cost of admission.

The trip winds through the Cabot Trail, a 300-kilometre route that rims Cape Breton Island and traverses Cape Breton Highlands National Park, a place of sublime serenity in Nova Scotia. A fully-supported tour, cyclists receive meals during all three days of the trek, and like tours of the more official sort, their gear gets the professional treatment between campsites with transportation and maintenance.

But as a showcase of the natural, bike-able beauty of Canada’s east coast, the best value of the Tour, no doubt, is beyond dollar signs. Take a look at how riders have experienced this incomparable Canadian two-wheeled journey.
