Movistar’s Annemiek van Vleuten launched clear from a breakway with Mavi García (UAE ADQ) to win stage three of the Giro d’Italia Donne on Monday. With the win, she also slipped on the pink jersey.

The Giro d’Italia Donne got back in action on Monday after a rest day on Sunday. The 120.9 km stage started and finished in Cesena, and saw plenty of action.

After a barrage of breaks, it all came down to the final climb, just 10 km from the finish. Van Vleuten and Garcia would make their move with FDJ’s Marta Cavalli. Cavalli wouldn’t be able to stick with her companions, and didn’t make up any ground on the descent.

Although Van Vleuten and Garci would attack each other on the climb, they couldn’t separate, and it came down to the final sprint. Van Vleuten would easily outkick Garci for the win. Canada’s Anna Gabrielle finished 42nd, Leah Kirchmann finished 84th, Sara Poidevin was 115th, Magdeleine Vallieres was 118th.
