A strong showing in Sunday’s final omnium event lifted Jasmin Glaesser to 7th at the Cali, Colombia UCI track cycling World Cup. A member of the gold-medal winning team pursuit lineup on Friday, Glaesser had to scrap from 16th spot going into the points race.

Glaesser was 13th after Saturday’s scratch, elimination and individual pursuit events but dropped to 16th following Sunday’s 500-metre time trial and flying lap. Coming seventh in the points competition jacked her up the table. Briton Laura Trott ran away with the gold medal, 53-points ahead of silver medalist Laurie Berthon of France.

In the men’s omnium Ed Veal finished one spot below where he was at the beginning of Sunday’s events–17th. His two best events were the scratch race and flying lap in which he placed 9th.

Monique Sullivan’s keirin journey started with a 3rd spot in Heat 3 of the first round. This got her into the first round repechage where she was relegated in Heat 3.

Joel Archambault and Joseph Veloce faced the difficult individual sprint competition. In the 200-metre flying start qualifier, Veloce’s 22nd-place time of 10.104 carried him into the 1/16 finals, but Archambault’s 37th place meant that his day was over. Veloce faced Max Niederlag but the German–who would eventually win bronze–prevailed.

Germany had the most gold medals with five and the most medals with seven. Russia earned six medals.

After Friday’s victory, the Canadian women of the team pursuit squad will wear the white World Cup leaders’ jerseys in the next meet at Cambridge, New Zealand, December 4 to 6.
