The NDP’s new leader Jagmeet Singh loves cycling
Jagmeet Singh commutes to work on two wheels and believes Canada should have a national cycling strategy
On Sunday, the New Democratic Party elected Jagmeet Singh it’s new leader after the first ballot of voting. The 38-year-old criminal defense lawyer turned politician who has sat in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario representing the provincial riding of Bramalea—Gore—Malton, is the first federal party leader from a visible minority. Singh, who’s been featured in GQ and has been called Canada’s most stylish politician by Buzzfeed, is also an avid cyclist. He frequently commutes to work in Queen’s Park by bike and rode in cities across the country this summer.

“It’s no secret that I love to cycle. I believe that it’s time for Canada to have a national cycling strategy that works to advance cycle infrastructure, safety and accessibility in cities and regions across Canada,” Singh wrote on his website in an invitation to a community ride.
Singh owns and is often seen on social media riding his Brompton foldable bike. In a trips across the country this summer, he brought his bike to ride with the community and check out the cycling infrastructure from coast-to-coast. Singh visited Winnipeg, Darmouth, Halifax, Victoria, Vancouver and of course rode around in Toronto. He frequently tags his cycling photos with #CycleLife.

He also did a segment for the Rick Mercer Report before announcing his candidacy for the NDP leadership where he rode around with the comedian in his Babboa Big cargo bike.
