James Piccoli pulls on Tour of Utah’s first yellow jersey after prologue victory

Elevate-KHS's Canadian continues fine season

Canada’s James Piccoli rocked Monday’s hilly prologue of the 15th Larry H.Miller Tour of Utah to grab the seven day race’s first yellow jersey. The Elevate-KHS rider rolled the 5.3-km course at Snowbird resort in 8:37, six seconds faster than three riders including Romanian Pro Continental/Continental mainstay Sergei Tvetcov.

Out of the 5.3 km, 2.5 km was climbing.

Piccoli knocked Lawson Craddock off the hot seat to earn his third stage triumph of the season.

Piccoli has been on fire this year, with a 2019 palmares boasting the Tour of the Gila title and three runner-up spots, including one the Tour de Beauce.

Guillaume Boivin was the eighth fastest rider at 8:52 and 2017 champ Rob Britton was 14th as the last man to ride.

The Tour of Utah continues Tuesday with six categorized climbs including a 1.2 km, 8.1 percent ascent on each of the five finishing circuits in North Logan.
