Rapper Kanye West has been showing off his latest line of Yeezy shoes and who would have thought that cycling fashion from ten-years ago would sneak into the hottest trends of today. Kanye began a collaboration with Adidas on a line of sneakers called Yeezy in 2015. In a series of Tweets on Friday, Kanye showed off some new shoes alongside handpicked outfits. Believe it or not, alongside a pair of highlighter yellow Yeezy Boost 700 was a Columbia-Highroad team jersey from 2008.

The appearance of a familiar retro cycling jersey in the outfit caught the attention of one of the riders who wore it back in the day. Mark Cavendish was a member of the Columbia-Highroad from 2006 to 2011.

The jersey appears to be from the 2008 season, the same year Cavendish picked up his first Grand Tour stage wins. Cavendish won two stages at the Giro d’Italia then four at the Tour de France in 2008. To say it was a breakout season would be an understatement but despite the fond memories, Cavendish may be regretting not holding onto some of his old gear.

“That moment you see your 10 year old kit is now a fashion statement, then realise you gave ALL of it away,” Cavendish Tweeted upon seeing the Tweet.

Cavendish has 30 Tour de France stage wins now but, according to Kanye’s style guide, may need to dig a little deeper him his closet if he’s going to pick up a pair of highlighter yellow Yeezy Boost 700.

While Cavendish didn’t have any Columbia-Highroad jerseys left, his teammate at the time George Hincapie held onto one.

“Just happen to have these laying around,” Hincapie Tweeted to Kanye with a picture of the 2008 jersey and his American champions colourway.

Kanye has his own history with Columbia but of the academic variety. Before launching his music career, Kanye briefly attended Chicago’s Columbia College in 2004. The next year he released College Dropout which received widespread the next year.
