Katusha’s new uniform sports new logo, two shades of red

A week or so after Katusha unveiled a new logo consisting of a stylized K, the team presented its new uniform for 2016 on Saturday. After several incarnations of red, white and blue stylings, often with Moscow onion dome dominated skylines, the squad has kept the blue to a minimum and gone with two shades of red along with a large white logo.

So far, Katusha has the most radically redesigned kit of any of the WorldTour teams. The world has yet to see Dimension Data’s brand new uniform.

The uniform unveiling was part of the team’s official team presentation in Calves, Spain. New riders Rein Taaramae (Estonia/ex-Astana) and Jurgen van den Broeck (Belgium/ex-Lotto-Soudal) were introduced. The squad has designated Russian Ilnur Zakarin, one of last season’s stage race revelations, as their Giro d’Italia protected rider, while Spaniard Joaquim Rodriguez will have captain duties at the Tour de France and Vuelta a España. The 2015 Tour of Flanders winner Alexander Kristoff (Norway) will once again target the cobbled Classics.

Katusha finished second to Movistar in the WorldTour team rankings, only 13-points behind Movistar’s 1619. Rodriguez was second and Kristoff fourth in the individual rankings won by Movistar’s stalwart Alejandro Valverde. Katusha’s Slovenian Simon Spilak was one of 2015’s silent assassins, coming in 15th, one spot ahead of Peter Sagan.
