Kristina Vogel badly injured in track collision
German track ace won three gold medals at Milton World Cup
German track cycling star Kristina Vogel, current world champion in the individual sprint and team sprint, was hurt in a collision with another cyclist on a velodrome in Cottbus, Germany on Tuesday. The double Olympic champion was flown to a Berlin trauma unit with a spinal injury.
Vogel was training with four-time junior world champion Pauline Grabosch when another rider unexpectedly entered the track. Vogel collided with the rider and fell onto a concrete track.
National team coach Detlef Uibel commented,“We are very worried about Kristina, it looks very bad”, while her manager Jörg Werner declared, “She is badly injured.” Vogel underwent several hours of surgery at the Berlin but there is no update on her condition.
There was an outpouring of sorrow and support from the track cycling community.

Vogel took the individual sprint, team sprint and keirin events at the Milton World Cup. She was the 2017-2018 World Cup winner in the keirin.
