Leopard-Trek to merge with Radioshack

Andy Schleck to miss GP's Montreal and Quebec

After weeks of speculation, Leopard-Trek, the Luxembourg-based team of the Schleck brothers and Fabian Cancellara, announced today that it is merging with Radioshack for the 2012 and 2013 seasons. The new squad will be known as Radioshack-Nissan-Trek.

Leopard’s owner Flavio Becca’s press release acknowledged that “in modern cycling you cannot move forward without strong sponsors.” The team will still be based out of Luxembourg and contain the Schlecks and Cancellara, along with Chris Horner, Andreas Kloden and Jani Brajkovic. Several riders will have to be let go, as in the case of the Garmin-Cervelo’s union this season. It’s assumed that Johan Bruyneel will be the squad’s manager.

In other Schleck news, Andy will be unable to participate in the two Canadian WorldTour races in Montreal and Quebec City this week due to an infected wisdom tooth. Leopard’s main riders will be Brice Feillu and Fabian Wegmann.
