Mark Cavendish joins Team Sky

Lead out man Eisel signs as well

Mark Cavendish, world’s best sprinter and brand new Worlds road race champion, has signed with British squad Team Sky. The Manx Missile’s decision was the worst kept secret in cycling. Cavendish’s lead out man on the now-defunct HTC-Highroad team, Bernie Eisel, has also joined Sky. Cav’s entry into the team means that, along with Bradley Wiggins, Chris Froome, Geraint Thomas and Sir Chris Hoy, Sky has nearly cornered the market on elite male British cycling talent.

There was much speculation about Cavendish’s future after HTC announced in August that it was folding. Some reckoned that he might go to newly amalgamated Omega Pharma-Quickstep. Apparently, one of the sticking points to Cav signing with Sky was his insistence on using a Specialized bike while Sky races Pinarellos. No word of a solution to this conflict was available at press time.
