Mattamy Homes has renewed it’s partnership with Canada’s national track cycling team through to the 2017-2018 season. The partnership was first established in February 2016.

The continued support will help Cycling Canada provide technical services, sport science, logistical support as well as accommodations for Canadian team athletes near the velodrome in Milton. Mattamy Homes is a privately owned home builder and it’s founder and CEO Peter Gilgan played a central role in helping fund the development and construction of the velodrome in Milton, Ont. The Mattamy National Cycling Centre hosted the track cycling events for the 2015 Pan-American Games and will host rounds of the World Cup in each of the three upcoming seasons.

“It takes passion and dedication to compete at the level that our national track cycling athletes do, and we’re very proud of all of them for their commitment,” explained Gilgan. “To succeed it also takes financial support and access to world-class training and facilities. At Mattamy we’re very pleased to be able to help and to continue to be associated with cycling excellence as we support our national team as they pursue their goals and make us proud.”

The track is Canada’s only UCI-approved 250 m indoor velodrome and acts as a home base for the national track team. It’s an important asset for Canada’s elite athletes targeting the world championships and the Olympics.

“We are indebted to Mattamy Homes for their continued support of the national track program and the athletes who are delivering world class performances as a result of this optimal training environment,” said Pierre Lafontaine, CEO of Cycling Canada. “Our success in Rio would not have been possible without this vital support and we are thrilled and grateful to continue this collaboration through the 2017-18 season.”

Canada’s national track team recently concluded it’s 2016-2017 season at the world championships in Hong Kong. The season was highlighted by medal winning performances at the Rio Olympics.
