The Milton International Cycling Challenge is set to begin this weekend at the Mattamy National Cycling Centre. After a successful Canadian National track championships, the Milton International Cycling Challenge will be the second event on the boards in as many weeks.

Cyclists from nine different nations are registered to compete. Canada, U.S.A., Jamaica, Trinidad, Germany, Austria, Netherlands, Norway and the United Kingdom will all be represented on the weekend.

Canada’s newest sprint team, featuring Joe Veloce, Evan Carey and Joel Archambault will aim to better their current international rankings when they take the line representing Canada. Their ultimate goal is to qualify for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio, Brazil.

Also representing Canada will be the men’s team pursuit who have demonstrated immense progress in World Cups events throughout the season. Remi Pelletier-Roy, Sean Mackinnon, Aiden Caves and Eric Johnston and Adam Jamieson will feature in the squad.

Allison Beveridge, Stephanie Roorda, and Kitsty Lay will represent the Canada in the women’s team pursuit, while the Olympic bronze medalist Jasmin Glaesser will make up the fourth member of the squad. In the last seven World Cup appearances, the women have finished on the podium, they’re hoping to continue that streak. The depth of Canada’s national team is impressive, as Cycling Canada will also field a second team, Kinley Gibson, Annie Foreman-Mackey, Catherine Dessureault and Arianne Bonhomme.

The first events of the weekend will take place on Friday, featuring the men’s team sprint.
