Montreal to spend $30 million to enhance and expand bike paths

In a recent announcement on Tuesday, the City of Montreal unveiled its plans to enhance and enlarge the bike path network. With a total of 53 projects in the pipeline, the city aims to invest $30 million towards the development and improvement of approximately 59.1 kilometers of cycling infrastructure. These projects will encompass 14 boroughs and extend to four neighboring municipalities, as detailed in a news release by the city.

“When we unveiled our Cycling Vision 2023-2027 in the autumn, we reaffirmed the extent to which the development of Montreal’s cycling network is a priority for us,” associate councillor for active transport on the city’s executive committee Marianne Giguere, said. “We are pursuing our active mobility efforts to encourage people to get moving, to travel efficiently and enjoyably while helping to make Montreal a carbon-neutral city by 2050.”
The work will be done on the following:
– Continuing the Verdun Street bike path towards Atwater Avenue.
– New one-way lanes on Christophe-Colomb AvenueDeveloping a two-way path on Prieur East Street that will link the Montreal North and Ahuntsic-Cartierville boroughs.
– Creating the new Bourbonniere Avenue bike path that will link the Rosemont-La Petite-Patrie and Mercier-Hochelaga-Maisonneuve boroughs.
– Creating a two-way path on Bourret Avenue
