Nova Scotia cycling community devastated after well-known rider hit by motorist

Rob Klue head shot

The Nova Scotia cycling community was shocked to hear that popular cyclist Rob Klue was hit by a motorist on Saturday. Thankfully, he survived but was seriously injured. Klue was commuting to his job on Saturday morning along Purcells Cove Road, when a driver hit him.

In a statement on Saturday, police said that the rider was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Klue’s friend Brendan Clinton started a GoFundMe fundraiser to help with medical costs.

On Sunday Clinton updated the community. “We visited the ICU earlier today and spoke to his partner about his condition. Rob was conscious today and doing well after his surgery yesterday. Which is awesome,” Clinton. “He will definitely have a challenging recovery but your support will make a huge difference.”

His friends and followers were happy that he survived, but shocked that he was involved in a collision.

“We’re talking about somebody who’s been riding, racing, commuting for 20 plus years, this guy knows what he’s doing,” co-president of Bicycle Nova Scotia for Competition lola Doucet said. “For somebody of his caliber to get hit, it’s like the inconceivable.”

As of Friday morning, $36,920 has been raised.
