Patrick Bevin avoids crash, gives CCC its first win as a WorldTour squad
Kiwi out sprints Ewan and Sagan at Tour Down Under
New Zealand’s Patrick Bevin earned Team CCC its first triumph as a WorldTour squad Wednesday on the Tour Down Under’s second stage. Bevin was among those who avoided a crash in the final kilometre that delayed the bulk of the peloton. The Kiwi’s bonus seconds earned in the Stage 1 breakaway meant that he took over the slightly different coloured orange leader’s jersey from Elia Viviani.
An AG2R rider was one of the first to go down in the big crash. Austrian Marco Haller of Katusha was second to last to cross the line after he got caught up in the carnage.

Astana’s LL Sanchez attacked the remnants but Bevin found the Spaniard’s wheel. Caleb Ewan couldn’t quite hold off the Kiwi at the line for his first WorldTour victory. Michael Woods stayed ahead of trouble and came in 12th. Bevin leads Viviani by five seconds and favourites like Woods, Rohan Dennis and Richie Porte by fifteen seconds.
