Peter Sagan announces divorce mid-Tour
Three-time world champion continues to entertain on the road despite turbulence in his personal life
Peter Sagan is on track for a very successful Tour de France having already won two stages and having a stranglehold on the green jersey. The three-time world champion is well on track to redeem himself after last year’s disqualification securing nine top-10 finishes in the first half of the race. However, behind the scenes, the easy-going Slovak is having a divorce with his wife of three years Katarina, the mother to his son Marlon.
Sagan made the announcement on his Facebook page after Stage 11. Sagan was on the attack in the early goings of the mountain stage to take more points for the green jersey competition.
“After a long and thoughtful discussion, Kate and I have come to the conclusion that we would be much better if we separated as a couple,” Sagan explained. “We feel we should continue our lives as good friends and we both agree it is the right decision.”
Sagan hasn’t been letting his personal life interfere with his work on the road. Not only has the world champion been very sharp but he’s been up to his usual antics having fun making viewers and fellow riders smile.
On a flat sprint stage where the Slovak was at the head of affairs in case of echelons formed, Sagan put his fist up for the camera to pose as Superman.

Sagan’s quest for a sixth green jersey looks well on track and with top sprinters Mark Cavendish, Marcel Kittel, Dylan Groenewegen and Fernando Gaviria out of the race, the road is clear of many top rivals in the remaining sprint stages.
