Peter Sagan finds ‘real job’ doing overtime work at the Tour Down Under

World champion gets his hands dirty following stage victory

Peter Sagan has found his true calling in cycling. After winning Stage 4 of the Tour Down Under and moving into the race lead for a day, Sagan got to work disassembling the flamme rouge.

While riding back after receiving the ochre jersey, Sagan in his world champions kit and still wearing the 100% motocross goggles he took to the podium stopped to lend race workers a hand deflating the one kilometre to go barrier.

“After today’s stage, I finally had a real job to do…” Sagan wrote on Twitter following the stage. “Their hard work makes it one of the best races in the world.”

Sagan took his first career stage win at the Tour Down Under in a bunch sprint on Friday. In the video, Sagan is scene helping the workers deflate the giant blue flamme rouge. While on scene he also stops to take pictures with fans. “Thanks also to the fans and spectators in South Australia! This victory goes to you!”

Sagan helped fold up the flamme rouge and then picks up electrical cables all while taking pictures and greeting  fans who had taken notice that the Slovakian has stopped to do some overtime work. Winning a stage and helping the race staff, all in a hard day work for the world champion.

The Tour Down Under concludes on Sunday with a circuit race in downtown Adelaide. While Sagan is no longer in the running for the overall win, he will be a favourite for the victory on the races concluding stage with good legs in the early season. He took the People’s Choice Classic last week and the challenging stage win on Friday.
