The current UCI WorldTour number one is on his way to Canada in early September

He’s currently the number one bike racer in the world in the midst of a dream season and he’s coming to Quebec City and Montreal for the WorldTour Grand Prix Cycliste races in September.

Philippe Gilbert, the Belgian rider on the Omega Pharma-Lotto team, has confirmed his participation in September 9th’s Grand Prix Cycliste de Quebec and the Grand Prix Cycliste de Montreal two days later. Introduced just last year on the UCI WorldTour schedule, the races were a huge success, with Thomas Voeckler winning in Quebec and Robert Gesink triumphant in Montreal.

Gilbert is having a phenomenal season, winning the Amstel Gold, Fleche Wallonne and Liege-Bastogne-Liege spring Classics before taking his country’s road race title for the first time. At the Tour de France he took the first stage, wearing yellow for a day. He’s currently in the green points jersey and sitting tenth on GC.

Along with many other riders, Gilbert will be using the Quebec races to hone his form before the UCI World Road Race Championship in Copenhagen, Denmark, on September 25.
