Pro Cycling Manager 2015 and Tour de France 2015, video games for the velo nut

Gamers and propellerheads alike, feast your eyes on the launch trailer of Tour de France 2015 and Pro Cycling Manager 2015, officially out today.

Hockey, football, basketball, and even track and field have all had their respective days as video games, with some of those games being more exciting than others. Apart from the odd opportunity to ride a bike through the environs of Grand Theft Auto 5, though, cycling hasn’t always seen the same innovations in gameplay and presentation in simulating our favourite sport.

That has changed: gamers and propellerheads alike, feast your eyes on the launch trailer of Tour de France 2015 and Pro Cycling Manager 2015.

They’re two games with two different sets of features, depending on what entertains you most about the sport of cycling. Tour de France 2015 is a straight-up simulator, allowing users to ride in “pro team mode”—directing the strategy of the entire squad—or in a more traditional solo play format. It obviously doesn’t include the adrenaline and the physical thrill of making it through the Pyrenees on a bike, but the graphics and the gameplay, it seems, make it a nonetheless enthralling experience.

Pro Cycling Manager 2015, on the other hand, is something for those with a particular affinity for doing the organizational heavy lifting: signing riders, wrangling personnel, directing finances and negotiating contracts, and lastly, guiding one’s finely tuned team through 200 events, the Tour de France itself being among them. The game also includes the option of riding as part of a virtual peloton, with multiplayer functions that can support as many as 16 players.

Tour de France 2015 and Pro Cycling Manager 2015 both come out June 18. Tour de France 2015 is available on Playstation 4, Xbox One and Playstation 3, while Pro Cycling Manager 2015 is available for PC.
