Quintana seals win of Tour de San Luis

Nairo Quintana (Movistar) wrapped up his first stage race victory of the season Sunday in Argentina’s Tour de San Luis. Sacha Modolo (Italy/Lampre-Merida) won the final stage’s sprint after a fine lead-out from teammate Max Richeze (Argentina), while Cannondale’s Peter Sagan (Slovakia) finally waved his 2014 flag by coming runner-up.

Colombian Quintana beat Garmin-Sharp’s Phillip Gaimon (USA) by 43 seconds on GC. Sergio Godoy’s climbs of distinction saw the San Luis Somos Todos rider round out the podium 2:02 back. Double stage winner Julian Arredondo (Colombia/Trek) finished just off the podium. Canadian Christian Meier of Orica-GreenEdge, third place on GC for two early stages after a cracking first stage, clung tenaciously to the 16th spot that he had occupied for three days.
