Road races cap off cycling events at Pan Am Games

Canadians denied podiums in Guadalajara

Although Canada finished third in the medals at the Guadalajara, Mexico Pan Am Games (tied for total medals with Brazil behind the USA, but with one gold less), its cyclists were kept off the podiums of the road races.

In the men’s race Marc De Maar of the Netherlands Antilles won a sprint over Venezualan Miguel Armando Ubeto, both at 3:40:55. The nearest Canadian was Longueuil, QC’s Guillaume Boivin at 11th, 3:24 back. Rob Britton of Victoria was 30th and Remi Pelletier of Quebec City was 32th.

The Cubans swept the women’s podium, but Montreal’s Joelle Numainville finished 6th and Denise Ramsden of Yellowknife came in 22nd, both :13 in arrears of gold medalist Arlenis Sierra Canadilla.
