Steph Roorda signs with Quebec UCI team

GSD Gestion-Kallisto-Specialized strengthens its roster

Quebec-based UCI team GSD Gestion-Kallisto-Specialized continues to strengthen its roster with the addition of Vancouver’s Steph Roorda.
Roorda comes hot off the track season in which she won gold as part of the Canadian team pursuit squad at the final world cup of the season, in Aguascalientes, Mexico, in January. She also attended the world championships in Minsk, Belarus, in February as alternate in case one of the other team members fell ill or got hurt.

“Signing with the GSD Gestion-Kallisto-Specialized team came relatively late for me,” said Roorda, 26, who has been focusing mainly on track racing since 2009. “I feel very fortunate to be given the opportunity to race with this team.”

Besides a string of track world cup and national championship podiums during the past few years, Roorda has offered a glimpse of what she’s capable of on the road, winning the UBC Grand Prix and the overall prize at the Tour de Delta in 2012.

Roorda joins an international roster at GSD Gestion-Kallisto-Specialized. The team features two-time world scratch race champion Katarzyna Pawlowska of Poland, Germans Charlene Delev and Lina Kristin Schink, Mayra Del Rocio Rocha Guerrero of Mexico and several young Canadians, including Alizée Brien and Kael Deverell.

“I will be joining the team in Europe at the end of March, and my first race will be the Tour of Flanders,” said Roorda, whose main goal is to gain more experience on the road.
