Sara Bergen keeps Rally win streak alive at Chico Stage Race

Rally Cycling’s women continued their winning ways today at the Chico Stage Race in California, taking the squads second straight win at the Paskenta Road Race, and holding on to the race’s leader jersey. Vancouver’s Sara Bergen hit the line first this time with yesterday’s winner, teammate Summer Moak follow behind her in second.

Katherine Maine started things off for Rally, building up a 50 second lead on the field at one point in the 90 mile road race. With the rest of Rally’s squad sitting in surrounding Moak, the rest of the peloton was left to chase the break. With 14 miles to go, Maine’s lead was still hovering around 55 seconds, with a concerted chase forming to hunt down the lead rider, but also dragging the rest of Rally along with them.

Entering the final four-mile grave section of Chico’s Paskenta Road Race, Sho-Air Twenty2o had pulled Main back to within 30 seconds. Yesterday’s antagonist for Rally, Gillian Ellsay of Courtenay, B.C., reprised her role again today, attacking the peloton into the gravel in an attempt to bridge up to her teammate.

Ellsay’s move blew apart the peloton, and the race was completely up in the air when the racers returned to the final, paved six miles to the finish. Sara Bergen emerged out of the action to cross the line first, with teammate Summer Moak following behind in second.
